Jane E. Bass 1931-2013

HOWLAND – Jane Elizabeth “Janie” Bass, 82, died Sunday morning, May 5, 2013, at Select Specialty of Youngstown.

She was born April 14, 1931 in West Mifflin, Pa., the daughter of the late John and Rose Davis Sotak.

She and her husband, Joe, moved to Warren in 1955 from Pennsylvania.

Janie was a 1949 graduate of Homestead High School and also attended secretarial classes. She worked as a switchboard operator and secretary for years at Taylor Winfield, the Warren Telephone Company and General Refractories. She also did temporary assignment work for a temp agency for many years.

Janie attended Leavittsburg Community Church.

Janie’s family was most important to her and she loved spending time with her family and her dogs. She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed cooking and collecting antiques and collectibles.

Her husband, Joseph L. Bass, whom she married in 1955, preceded her in death in 2000. Her daughter, Leslie Anne “Rusty” Bass died April 1, 2012; a grandson, Danny Bass; one brother, Rick Sotak; and one sister, Eleanor Martinich also preceded her in death.

Janie is survived by two sons, Ronald (Linda) Bass of Cleveland and David (Jennifer) Bass of Leavittsburg; three granddaughters, Crystal Bass, Natalie McHenery and Tessa Bass and three great grandsons, Kyle, Ethan and Aiden.

Private family graveside services will be held Friday morning at Meadowbrook Memorial Park in Champion.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel in Cortland.
