Restaurants take wing challenge

The first Steel Valley Wing Challenge will raise money to benefit Homes for Kids / Child and Family Solutions.

Attendees will be able to sample more than three dozen kinds of wings from 13 area vendors: Wing Warehouse Warren, Up A Creek Tavern, The Rig, RP McMurphy’s Sports Bar & Grill, Uncle Sil’s Bar & Grille, Lake Tavern, Guys BBQ, The Ice House, Sunrise Inn, The New Manhattan, Mikeee’s II, Yankee Lake, Inc. and Tiffany’s Banquet Center.

Celebrity judges will pick the winners in four categories – Best Hot, Best BBQ, Best Traditional and Most Creative – and guests will be able to vote for the Best Overall Wing Vendor.

Those attending can sign up for a Wing Eating Contest, sponsored by Lake Tavern. The contest is limited to the first 30 registered participants, and the cost is $10 (in addition to the admission fee). The first place winner will receive the “Bad to the Bone” trophy and a prize package valued at more than $150. Second place will receive a trophy and a prize package valued at more than $75. A basket raffle and 50/50 raffle also are planed to help benefit the organizations. Homes For Kids provides treatment foster care to children who reside in the foster care system in the state of Ohio, many of whom have been emotionally, physically or sexually abused. Child and Family

Entertainment will feature the group Trilogy. Dessert will be provided by Sam’s Club, and celery and carrots will be provided by Gardner’s Green Thumb.

The Steel Valley Wing Challenge runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at Tiffany’s Banquet Center, 601 Bedford Road, Brookfield. Tickets are $20 for adults and $8 for children ages 6 to 13 with children age 5 and younger admitted for free. Reserved tables for 10 guests are available for purchase in advance for $250 and include your family or company name displayed on the table and listed in the event program.
