Michael Verbanic 1922-2013

HOWLAND – Michael Verbanic, 91, passed away peacefully at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at the Autumn Hills Nursing Home following a short illness.

He was born Sept. 19, 1922, in Monessen, Pa., the son of Joseph and Katherine Knezevich Verbanic.

Michael was employed for 40 years as a fitter and welder for Heltzel Iron and Steel Co., Warren, and retired in 1989. He formerly co-owned the Southington Motel. Following retirement, he was the gardener and yard caretaker for Dr. Kavanaugh.

He was in the CCC camps in Yellowstone before going into the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II.

An avid golfer, he enjoyed visiting the casinos, traveling to Ocean City, Md., on family vacations, carpenter work, home building, spending time at the Eastwood Mall, and activities with his four granddaughters.

Michael is survived by two daughters, Cheryl A. (David Clutter) Margrave of Bristolville and Deborah L. (William) Draves of Niles; four granddaughters, Tiffany (Nelson) Caron of Savannah, Ga., Bobbie Bahn and Kristen Margrave, both of Orlando, Fla., and Nikki (Jeff) Gardner of Fowler; three great-granddaughters, Jaelynn Gardner, Eleanor and Vivian Caron; and a brother, Charles (Babe) Verbanic of Hollister, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna M. Mihokovich Verbanic, whom he married Nov. 18, 1950, and who died on Oct. 25, 1993; three brothers, John, Frank and Joseph Verbanic; and a sister, Louise McCormick.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery with military honors provided by the Trumbull County Honor Guard.
