Vigil to remember suicide victims

CANDLELIGHT VIGIL TO REMEMBER LOVED ONES: Loving Outreach Surviving Suicide and Survivors of Suicide of Help Hotline will hold the 15th annual candlelight vigil in remembrance of loved ones who died by suicide at 6 p.m. Saturday at Victory Christian Center Warren Campus, 4257 Tod Ave. N.W., Warren. Anyone who has experienced a loss of a loved one to suicide is welcome and can bring photos or signs.

COMMUNITYWIDE SURVEY: A communitywide survey for caregivers and students in Warren is being conducted this month at WeAreWarren.org.

Leaders said that Warren city, Warren schools – public, private and charter – parents, students, teachers, community leaders and nonprofit organizations are trying to coordinate existing programs and facilities as well as create new initiatives as needed that give youth better and more meaningful ways to thrive.

The WeAreWarren initiative is being supported by a grant from the Raymond John Wean Foundation.

CENTER STARTS STEM PROGRAM: With a grant funded from the William Swanston Charitable Fund, OH WOW! The Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology, 11 W. Federal St., Youngstown, will host events for foster families in the Mahoning and Trumbull County service areas.

The objective of the collaborative pilot program is to provide an environment to help build relationships between foster families and the children they are caring for, while increasing their interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education through hands-on interactive activities.

FINDING HOPE AT HOLIDAYS: Higgins-Reardon Poland Chapel, 2726 Center Road, Poland, will hold a finding light and hope during the holidays at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Poland location and at 2 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Canfield Chapel, 3701 Starr’s Centre Drive, Canfield. The program is “Finding Light and Hope During the Holidays.”

Those attending can bring a gift in memory of a loved one or drop one off at the Austintown Chapel. The gifts will be given to the Emmanuel Community Care Center in Girard. Call 330-792-2353.

YARD WASTE BEING COLLECTED: Howland Township is holding a leaf pickup and yard waste through Dec. 13. Pickup will be on Fridays only. Leaves and grass bags are to be placed at curbside on Thursday. There will be no pickup on Nov. 29. All leaves and grass must be placed in paper, biodegradable bags.
