Marlene K. Harter, 1950-2013
CORTLAND – Marlene “Marti” Kay Harter, 63, of Cortland, died unexpectedly at 8:46 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren .
She was born April 24, 1950, in Gassaway, W.Va., the daughter of Robert and Mildred Rapp Chapman.
Marlene was a 1968 graduate of Wadsworth High School and a 1972 graduate of Bowling Green State University, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education.
Mrs. Harter was a teacher in the Bristol School District for 37 years, retiring in 2009, where she taught math. Following retirement, she taught at Lakeview and Bristol as a substitute teacher. She was an avid reader, and she traveled and loved sports of all kind. Marti also was a member of the Howland Community Church.
Survivors include her husband, James D. Harter, whom she married July 29, 1972; her mother of Wadsworth; her daughter, Kari M. (Adam) Hineman of Lyndhurst; one sister, Karen (Dave) Weber of Tipp City; and her mother-in-law, Wilma Grant Harter of Canton.
Those who have preceded Marti in death were her father; her daughter, Tami R. Harter in 2011; and her father-in-law, Dale Harter.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel in Cortland, where the Rev. Brian Byrne will celebrate Marlene’s life.
Family and friends may visit 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cortland Library, 578 Wakefield Drive, Cortland, OH 44410, in Marlene’s memory.
