Free garden workshops set
FREE GARDEN WORKSHOPS: Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership’s Garden Resources of Warren (GROW) Program is offering a free workshop series for those interested in taking on leadership roles in new and existing community gardens. Participants can take an existing community garden to grow their own food or food to share and can turn a vacant property into positive, productive use. Classes will be held Feb. 10, 17 and 24. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Trumbull Mobile Meals is looking for people who are interested in seeing that “no one goes hungry” in their community. Anyone who has one or two days a week to deliver meals to shut-ins can volunteer. Call 330-394-2538.
CENTER OFFERS ROBOT CLASS: Oh Wow! The Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology, 11 W. Federal St., Youngstown, will hold a “Make Robots” event from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday for all ages. Participants will make robots to help solve simple tasks using tools with the help of experienced makers.
FOUNDATION DEPARTMENT: The Cafaro Foundation has presented a $250,000 gift for the Trumbull County Animal Welfare League for its new center at 812 Youngstown Kingsville Road, Vienna. The facility will encompass 47,000 square feet. The league is near the $4.1 million fundraising goal to get the major part of the facility up and running. Additional fundraising will help the league complete additional phases of the building that will encompass education facilities and additional kennel capacity. The center is anticipated to be opened in January 2014.
