Third quarter dooms Howland in first-round loss

MASSILLON – Massillon Perry outscored Howland 26-11 in the third quarter to lead Perry to a 60-45 sectional semifinal victory in the Division I North Canton district.

Carlee Pireu paced Perry (13-10) during the third with 10 points.

Kimmie Borck led Perry with 17 points, while Brittany Miner added 14 and Pireu added 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Perry began the game with an 11-0 run, but Howland rallied to outscore the Panthers 17-9 the rest of the half – leading up to the pivotal third quarter.

Gabby Cvengros paced Howland (13-10) with 12 points.

WEST BRANCH 70, NILES 18: BELOIT – Melinda Trimmer had 18 points and Amanda Linhart added 16 as the Warriors beat the Red Dragons in a Division II sectional semifinal.

Ashley Cline led Niles with seven points.

Wednesday, second-seeded West Branch hosts Poland in a sectional final.


MOGADORE 72, WINDHAM 40: WINDHAM – Mogadore closed the first half on a 15-0 run to ignite a rout of Windham in a non-conference clash.

Madi Morris led the second-quarter surge, hitting three of her five 3-pointers. She finished the game with 17. Ashley Barker led the Wildcats with 18 points. Grace Reilly added 14 points, and Lexi Pierce scored 10.

Windham (14-7) trailed by five before Mogadore’s run pushed its lead to 40-20. Lexi Knight and Jessica Isler scored 12 points apiece, while Brittany Knight chipped in 11.

JACKSON-MILTON 52, LISBON 43: LISBON – Kaitlyn Totani had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Blue Jays past the Blue Devils in a regular-season game.

Jackson-Milton (14-8) outrebounded Lisbon 51-35. Rebecca Jones had 13 rebounds, while Izzy Scarl added 12.

Madison Tomaino added 13 points for the Blue Jays, who host Lowellville Wednesday in a Division IV sectional semfinal in the Mineral Ridge district.
