Fund helps LaBrae classmates
LEAVITTSBURG – Fundraiser are being planned to help the Fallen Viking Fund, which provides assistance to those graduates and classmates of LaBrae schools who have died.
John DeGutis, founder and trustee of the fund, said recently LaBrae alumnus Wayne Johnson died and the fund will assist with his funeral.
The fund was established three years ago and has already assisted with two other classmates’ funerals.
He said the fund was created in the memory of David Stowe and to honor those that have passed from the Braceville Bees, Leavittsburg Yellow Jackets and LaBrae Vikings.
Stowe had no family to bury him, DeGutis said. A group of alumni said something need to be done and started the fund.
DeGutis said that while fundraising is planned donations are also being sought from the Braceville and Leavittsburg communities.
A Chinese auction will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on April 6 at Johnson Community Center, 800 Gilmer Road, Leavittsburg, which will also include door prizes and a 50-50 drawing.
