WARREN – Edwin Shinoskie, 88, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
Edwin was born Feb. 7, 1926, in Douglas, W.Va., a son of the late Joseph and Helen Smurek Shinosky, and moved to the Warren area in 1938.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Edwin served aboard the Battleship USS New Jersey during World War II, and retired from Packard Electric in 1988 after 45 years of service.
He was a member of Blessed John Paul II Parish in Warren, and enjoyed spending time with family, especially his granddaughters.
His loving wife, the former Stella Kaszowski, whom he married July 17, 1948, and spent 65 years of marriage with, passed away Aug. 29, 2013.
Edwin’s memories will be cherished by his two sons, David (Rose) Shinoskie of Columbus and Steven Shinoskie of Warren; three brothers, John Shinosky of Warren, Albert (Beverly) Shinosky of Howland and Henry Shinosky of Warren; one sister, Sister Mary Michael, PCPA, of Hanceville, Ala.; two granddaughters, GinaMarie and Jessica; and one great-granddaughter, Chloe.
Besides his parents and wife, Edwin was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, Bill and Victor Shinosky; and two sisters, Lavinia Shinosky and Veronica Somplack.
Friends may call from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday and from 10 until 11 a.m. Monday at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, 962 North Road N.E., Warren, OH 44483, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Reverend Christopher Henyk officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors.
