WHAT; Southington Township trustee meeting on Wednesday
PRESENT: Sam Plott, Bob Reader, Dan Tietz
l Approved the chip and sealing for this summer of Herner-Countyline, Shanks Down, Barclay-Messerly, and Leiby-Osborne roads. The Trumbull County engineer’s office is preparing bids for the 7.25 miles of roads;
l Reported Leiby-Osborne Road is having an aged bridge removed and replaced with double culverts with work to be done by April 15;
l Approved $1,556 to Finley Fire Co. for turnout gear;
l Set spring cleanup for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 10 at the township garage;
l Reported work will continue on the walking trail by the township hall and former school property when weather improves;
l Announced the Trumbull Trustee Association will host a candidate / issues forum at 6 p.m. April 10 at the Southington school complex for the upcoming May 6 primary;
l Scheduled a zoning hearing for noon Saturday at the township hall.

WHAT: Niles City Council meeting on Wednesday
PRESENT: Robert Marino, Frank Pezzano, John Merlo, Edward Stredney, Edward McCormick, Michael Lastic, Reggie Giancola Jr. and Stephen Papalas
l Adopted an ordinance approving and updating the recodification, editing and inclusion of various ordinances that have been passed.
This legislation will conform to classification and numbering systems of codified ordinances, as well as add, amend or repeal codes to comply with state law;
l Adopted a resolution authorizing the first quarter cash transfer from the general fund to the police and fire fund in the amount of $2 million; police pension in the amount of $150,000; and the fire pension in the amount of $150,000;
l Adopted an ordinance authorizing the service director to issue a request for qualifications to provide technical and administrative services pursuant to the Clean Ohio Assistance Fund Grant to remediate issues at the former Republic Steel, current BRT Extrusions Inc., site.
l Adopted a resolution authorizing the mayor to file an application and to execute contracts in connection with the Congestion Mitigation / Air Quality program for funding the state Route 46 and Niles-Vienna Road intersection improvement.
