Trumbull, Mahoning home sales both dip in March

WARREN – Homes sales in both Trumbull and Mahoning counties dipped last month, according to numbers released by the Youngstown-Columbiana Association of Realtors.

Trumbull home sale records, compiled by the Warren Area Board of Realtors dropped 5 percent to 130, from the 137 home sales in March 2013.

For the year, though, Trumbull sales are outpacing those of the previous year, by nearly 6 percent.

Home sales in Mahoning County also dropped in March to 161, from 189 the previous March, a 15 percent decline.

Also declining in Trumbull County was the median home sale price.

Trumbull sales showed an average sale price of $59,000, down more than 12 percent from the March 2013 average price of $67,250.

Mahoning County home prices rose, however, by about 2 percent to $68,375 from $67,000 median price in March 2013.

The Mahoning Valley was not alone in the sales drop.

The number of homes sold across Ohio in March also fell 6.5 percent from the level posted during the month a year ago, according to the Ohio Association of Realtors.

“A tight inventory of homes for sale and lingering winter conditions have contributed to a less robust housing sector so far this year,” OAR President Chris Hall said.

March’s average home price of $135,533 for the state reflects a 3.7 percent increase from the $130,688 mark posted during March 2013.
