Someplace Safe volunteer honored
WARREN – Sister Stella Schmid was recently presented the “Heart of the Mission” award for her devotion to helping others at the recent Humility of Mary Health Partners Foundation Founder’s Circle appreciation event held at Fellows Riverside Gardens.
Schmid became a Sister of the Humility of Mary in the early 1960s. She began her nursing career at St. Elizabeth Health Center where she changed the way stroke patients were rehabilitated. Schmid designed an innovative unit where stroke patients were able to receive services such as occupational and speech therapies designed specifically for them.
Schmid has been involved with Someplace Safe, the domestic violence program in Trumbull County, for more than 30 years and has served as secretary of the board of directors. She has spent numerous hours volunteering with the children.
In honor of Schmid’s accomplishments, the HMHP Foundation Board has made a $2,500 donation to be used toward children’s programming and events at the Someplace Safe.
