Kids can sign up for Olympics

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR CHILDREN’S OLYMPICS: The 31st annual Children’s Olympics will be held at 9 a.m. May 31 at Howland Middle School track, 8100 South St. S.E. The event is being sponsored by the YWCA of Warren. Children in grades first to sixth will compete against others in track and field events. Tennis shoes are required. An awards assembly will be held. Registration is needed by May 16. Forms are available at local schools and the YWCA.

SCANNER CLUB TO MEET: The Greater Youngstown Monitoring Association Scanner Club will meet at 7 p.m. Saturday at Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St. Anyone interested in scanner monitoring or amateur radio hobby is invited.

BRISTOL HOLDS TRUNK SALE: Bristol Local Schools Student Council will hold its annual trunk sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the school parking lot. The event is being held to get the students active in the community.

DISTRICT THREE, ONA ANNOUNCE SPEAKER: The District Three, Ohio Nurses Association announced that its 2014 National Nurses Week (May 6 to 12) event will include a visit from Jennifer Davis who will be the keynote speaker at the planned “Nurses Make a Difference” reception and banquet at 6 p.m. Friday at Cafe 422, 8586 South Ave., Youngstown. Davis will present an update on the American Nurses Association endeavors.

FREE ALLERGY WORKSHOP: Join Dr. Dannielle MacDuff for a free informative lecture on food and environmental allergies, their causes, treatment and possibly reversing them. CLEAN UP CEMETERY: Champion officials are reminding residents to remove all decorations from the township cemetery for cleanup for Memorial Day.

CHOICES WEEK ASSEMBLY: Hubbard High School held its first “Choices Week” Assembly to promote positive decision making. Students viewed a student-produced video and listened to guest speaker Sgt. Moffitt of the Hubbard Police Department. Students and staff made the video to promote good choices and have formed this “Choices Week.” Juniors and seniors also attended a Choices Learning Fair (organized by SADD), which focused on making smart choices in all areas of their lives. Some of topics included safe dating, drug and alcohol impairment, positive decision making, and the use of a distracted driving simulator.
