Mike K. Markopoulos

NILES – Mike K. Markopoulos, 79, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Seidman Cancer Center at the Cleveland University Hospital.

Mike was born in Warren, the son of Kyriakos and Chrysanthe Markopoulos.

He was a 1952 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. After high school, he enrolled and graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy at Youngstown State University in 1974.

Mike retired in 1990 from the U.S. Postal Service as a postal clerk after 35 years of service. He was of the Greek Orthodox faith.

Mike enjoyed listening to jazz and Greek music; was an avid reader; enjoyed playing his saxophone; loved to watch all sports, especially football and basketball; and enjoyed being outdoors and doing yardwork.

Mike served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1957 on the USS Samuel B. Roberts (DD823).

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Markopoulos, whom he married Feb. 15, 1959; three daughters, Christy, Jamie and Michelle; two grandsons, William and Troy; and his sister, Sylvia Bardos.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Geoffrey Thomas; and two brothers, John and Ted Markopoulos.

Per his request, there will be no calling hours or service.
