Asma was born Feb. 15, 1908, in Thoum, Batroun, Lebanon, the daughter of the late Joseph Nakhoul and Ragbaa Abboud Nakhoul, and was one of 10 children – she had three brothers and six sisters.

She studied at the School of the Nuns in Jerusalem and spoke English, French and Arabic fluently.

After marrying Thomas Joseph Saloom on Christmas Eve 1930, they immigrated to the United States of America.

Asma was a hard worker and operated a grocery store for more than 35 years, first in Sharon and later Masury, until her retirement in 1971.

She was totally devoted to her family and to her church, and worked for many years with the Brookfield Fireman’s Ladies Auxiliary. After her retirement, Asma had traveled on five trips returning to her native Lebanon, and thoroughly enjoying every one of them.

She leaves behind her two sisters, Violette and Guliette, both of Lebanon; two sons, Emil (Doris) Saloom of Canfield and Louis (Janalyn) Saloom of Brookfield; two daughters-in-law, Georgette and Phyllis Saloom; five grandchildren, Thomas, Phillip, Joseph, Christopher and Craig; and three great-grandchildren, Evan, Sean Thomas and Cole.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, who passed away on Aug. 23, 1974, and by two sons, Joseph and Edward.
