Blast likely caused by large firecracker

WARREN – What residents thought was an explosion Wednesday night most likely was a large firecracker, fire officials said.

Firefighters were called to the area of 3132 Foster Drive N.E. around 9:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a large amount of smoke following what residents thought could have been an explosion. Firefighters didn’t find any fire or smoke when they got to the scene, and surmised that the blast likely was caused by a large firecracker, such as an M250.

No injuries were reported.

At about the same time as the explosion report, an alarm was set off near the Morgandale Commons building along Plaza Avenue N.E. That turned out to be an alarm tripped by overcooked food that smoked, firefighters said.
