First Book celebrates 50th anniversary of classic

WARREN – First Book-Trumbull County will be celebrating the 50-year anniversary of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” with a youth program at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace AME Church, 1137 Main Ave. S.W., Warren.

Ellen Finan with First Book-Trumbull County said 50 brand-new copies of the Roald Dahl classic, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” will be presented to the youth in the program.

Finan said First Book-Trumbull County is one of only 25 advisory boards nationwide selected by Penguin Young Readers Group and First Book to receive 50 copies of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and a free Roald Dahl beanbag chair.

PMG Chocolatier will provide chocolate samples for the event.

Grace AME received a First Book-Trumbull County Local Advisory Board book grant in 2014, which it used to supply its Reading is Fun program.

First Book is a national nonprofit literacy organization providing new books to children in need, through a network of local advisory boards located throughout the country.
